It is but natural for many of us to lounge in the sun after spending a considerable amount of time hibernating during the cold winter days. We, ladies especially want to run off to the nearest beach to get that summer tan we have long been wanting.
Before you put on your bikini for a hot day at the beach, you have to pause for a moment and think about certain issues that have gotten women all over the world very concerned. Studies have indicated that the occurrence of melanoma among women especially beyond their 30s is increasing. This cancer is a result of a woman’s exposure to the sun during her early years, teens and during her 20s. UV light causes mutations in the DNA of the body leading to formation of tumor and cancer. Also, exposure to the sun is the major cause of the occurrence of dreaded wrinkles.
Anti-oxidants like vitamins E and C have anti-aging attributes and helps prevent cancer. You can find in the market sunscreens and lotions that contain anti-oxidants to help protect and keep skin healthy.
Sunscreen is very important to apply if you expose yourself to the sun. But for people who are in for some sweat during these hot summer days, the mixture of certain outdoor elements and sweat can easily wear off your sunscreen. Look for longer wearing sunscreens to have protection from ultraviolet rays all the time. Reapplying sunscreen every two to three hours would be most ideal.
You can also find a lot of make-up and cosmetic products that contain sunscreen protection ranging from powders, foundation, eye shadow, blush and even lipstick. Cream blush can stand up better towards sweat and also easily blends with sunscreen.
Summer is a time of fun and relaxation and we should enjoy every moment of it. While having some fun in the sun, protect your skin with products containing sunscreen features to keep it soft, supple and healthy.

Schulze also says that an oil-free tinted moisturizer for color will also double as sunscreen. Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer (available at Neiman Marcus, Sephora, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom) is a favorite of several makeup artists, as are tinted moisturizers by Murad (available at Michael Kemper Salon) and Trish McEvoy (available at Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue). Cheeks tend to look pink in summer anyway due to the heat, but Schulze says that using a light gel brush will provide a slight color. Tart and Benefit are sold at Sephora and they are not greasy, but provide a flushed look. Mineral makeup is a great alternative if you are wearing blush.
You should remember that lips need protection from the sun too. It is best to apply a moisturizing lip balm and then to apply gloss on that. There are plenty of options available, and you can select the ones you like best.
Mineral makeup is natural and it is certainly the best makeup you can use in summer. It became a rage in Hollywood and the rest of the US a few years ago, but a lot of women still do not understand how wonderful mineral makeup is for summer months. Mineral makeup is made from natural ingredients, the two main ones being zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.
Titanium dioxide is a waterproof, light mineral which is ground into a very fine powder and is the principal ingredient in the makeup. As it lies lightly on the skin, its tiny plates cover the pores of the skin and protect them from bacteria-feeding moisture. This is the reason dermatologists all over the world call mineral makeup 'acne fighting makeup'. Titanium dioxide is also not absorbable in water, and it can thus be applied when going to the pool or beach because it is waterproof and will maintain the flawless complexion. You will be able to swim and play at the beach while maintaining the finished look the makeup had when you first put it on in the morning.
Mineral makeup will not run down your face when you sweat because it is waterproof and will not be absorbed by the sweat on your face. This makes it perfect for many summer sports such as horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, etc.
Zinc oxide, which is the other main ingredient of mineral makeup, is a natural sunscreen which is used in sun protections products all over the world. Thus, zinc oxide makes mineral makeup the perfect sunscreen, and the SPF is 25. You can wear extra sunscreen under the makeup for additional sun protection in summer.
Mineral makeup will not harm your skin if you keep it on for a long time, and you can even leave it on overnight if you have a busy morning ahead of you. Using mineral makeup will make your skin healthier.
Thus, in a nutshell, mineral makeup is a natural way to fight acne, protect your skin from the sun, and have great looking skin, and it is also waterproof which makes it excellent for summer sports.

Makeup artists feel that mineral makeup is the best product for the skin because:
A majority of women are now switching to mineral makeup rather than sticking with traditional makeup. Since the popularity of natural food, lifestyle and remedies has emerged quite recently, the popularity of mineral makeup is also increasing only recently even though the products has been around for some time now. Thus, there is an increasing variety of lipsticks, foundations, tonic, etc. which are available in all kinds of prices and quality groups in answer to the growing demand for them.
When mineral makeup is applied carefully and correctly, can help to relieve many dermatological conditions. The makeup cosmetic minerals are non-comedogenic and non-allergenic and since these products rarely have any artificial preservatives, additives, binders and fragrances, these products can be used by those women who have skin problems, especially those who are prone to allergies. However, these products have to be tested out by each woman as there are no lists of allergens.
Moreover, sheer cover mineral foundation can be used as a cure for different issues coming from the trials to combine the need for flawless makeup and the busy modern style of living. Mineral makeup lasts much longer than traditional makeup. The fine particles do not crumble and fizz in the creases in the skin. You can even sleep while having your makeup on, if you need to do so, because your skin will be able to breathe through the natural layer of foundation. Another advantage is that you will not need to correct it after working out at the gym.
Products which are made from earth minerals which are ground finely can be applied on the skin even after strong skin procedures such as laser or peeling, as many of the common ingredients have anti-inflammatory and anti-irritating properties. The more expensive combinations are also often thought to be cheaper options to spa treatments, available in one's own bathroom.
You have to take certain things into consideration before you decide on a certain mineral makeup product. The sudden hype over mineral makeup often causes manufacturers to put a sticker saying 'natural' or 'mineral' on the product, as there is no law restricting such a kind of labeling. Thus, you should read the ingredients carefully before you buy the product.
A large number of women are now going over to using mineral makeup due to the many advantages it offers. It is definitely worth trying out. Young women especially should try it because they can benefit from the natural healthy glow which mineral makeup foundation provides.

For a fine and natural look, apply a thin line of eyeliner to the lower lid. Then blend in with a brush if needed.
For the fuller, round looking eye, first apply to the upper lid, making a thicker line in the middle of the lid using a pencil or liquid eyeliner. Now blend in with a brush if needed to give a smoother line.
For larger looking eyes, line only the outer half of the upper and lower eyelid. If you are going for the dramatic look, apply a thick line of eyeliner to upper and lower eyelid, blending in with a brush if needed.
For narrow eyes, only use eyeliner on upper lid to avoid closing eyes further. For the outer part of the eyelid, use pale colours to give shape and definition. Artificial lashes beneficial to help open eyes and make lashes appear thicker.
For heavy eyelids, use pale colours only on the eye socket. Apply artificial lashes to the corners to lift the eyes and help to make them appear more open and wide.
If you have close set eyes, for the inner lid, pale colours should be used. While on the outer lid, darker colours should be used. Blend from pale to darker shade using brush, blending darker shades up and out. Use eyeliner on the outer half of the eye. Eyebrows should be shortened at nose to help create a wider gap between the eyes.
If you have deep set eyes, use pale colours only on the eye socket; use a slightly darker shade above the crease of your eye socket. Use eyeliner on both the upper and lower lids, blending in to soften the lines. Mascara or artificial eyelashes is beneficial to help highlight the eyes further.
With wide set eyes, use darker colours for the inner lid and pale colours on the outer lid. Extend the eyebrows towards the nose to narrow the gap between the eyes using an eyebrow pencil.
For round eyes, use pale colours over the entire eye socket and in the crease of the eye, blend in a darker shade. Apply eyeliner to top and bottom lids and apply mascara on upper and outer lashes only.
For almond shaped eyes, use a light shade of eye shadow from lashes to the brow. Use a medium shade on eyelid and a darker shade on the outer third of your eyelid.
Finally, here are some eye makeup tips for the more mature. Avoid black eyeliner and mascara as these can be too harsh. Instead opt for softer neutrals such as grey or brown for a softer, attractive look.

Mineral makeup is catching up with crème de la crème of society and their fans are not left too far behind. These cosmetics are basically made for minerals that are ground fine and treated to generate the desired hue and texture, to serve a particular purpose. There are special mineral make up brushes used for the application and they result in a flawless effect each time. These special brushes are specifically made for the mineral make up application and are marketed by dedicated mineral make up outlets, worldwide.
Mineral make up is made using only the finest ingredients, without the unnecessary fillers like bismuth oxy-chloride and nano content. The cosmetic line is promoted for all skin types and complexions. There are foundations, bronzers, and veils to choose from. The mineral make up marketed enables you to get that much desired beautiful, conditioned, natural look. Most mineral make up in the market today, especially the ones being marketed by established names, is bacteria resistant.
Mineral make up enables you to successfully camouflage acne, without irritating the skin around the inflamed area. The foundations come in a variety of colours, to match any skin shade. If a shine is desired on the makeup, especially for a night or late evening social do, then the mineral make up foundation could be mixed with additional colour or a bronzer. However, most of the foundations are with the natural matte finish.
The mineral make up bronzers enable you to sport that natural tan or a sun-kissed look, anytime and anywhere. Prepare Your Palette. Primers prep the skin for makeup application by evening-out the skin's surface, filling in lines and concealing any imperfections. I always use face, eye and lip primers before applying color cosmetics. The key for 50+ women is to look for products that offer hydrating formulas to ease drying skin, and light-reflecting ingredients to diffuse lines, for a smoother, more even appearance.
Bring Back Color. Many women in their 50's find that their skin becomes dry and sallow and it has lost its natural radiance and color. I recommend using hydrating products that help energize your look, such as the Vital Radiance Line Softening Makeup-Rehydrating. Its water-based formula with SPF 15 boosts moisture, while its increased color density revitalizes your complexion. And its remarkably lightweight formula won't settle into lines or wrinkles. Try using a brush to apply this product-this technique creates a polished makeup look and provides precise application. Best of all, Vital Radiance makes it easier than ever for 50+ women to look their best, offering free tips, advice and product samples. Just call (800) RADIANT seven days a week to speak to a live Beauty Specialist.
Finishing Touches. One of my favorite tips is using a light powder blush in a bronze hue to add dimension and highlight cheekbones. With a large dome-shaped brush, sweep the color from the cheekbone across the nose to the other side of the face as well as on the temples and along the hairline. The combination of the rounded brush and the bronze hue achieves a vibrant yet natural, sun-kissed look.
With the right products, any 50+ woman can enhance her natural beauty for a revitalized, radiant look.

Many people think they already know how to apply eyeliner, and by all rights, they do a good job. In actuality, there is a big difference between the way you might apply eyeliner and the way a professional make-up artist does. Use these easy-to-follow steps and you can apply eyeliner like a professional make-up artist:
An eyeliner must be applied near the base of your eyelashes. As there are varying products in the market such as cake eyeliner, liquid liner and pencil eyeliner, it is important to try each type so that you will know which type will best accentuate your own natural beauty. Also, to whatever type you prefer, practice the application so you can achieve a very fine line. Remember that it is not a pretty sight when you apply eyeliner in a very thick line. It will look harsh, at the same time loud, making your eyes as well as giving it a tired and heavy impression. Always bear in mind that a thin line is recommended - should you have any trouble applying it, a brush is helpful to smooth out the line and to blend it well.
Liquid eye liner.
Liquid eyeliners are recommended to be used and should only be used above the top of the eye lashes, whereas an eye shadow or an eye lining pencil is suggested to be used under the eyes lower lashes. This kind comes usually in a bottle with an application brush, almost similar to an ink. This requires great precision during application, but can be perfected through constant practice. A note to remember is to always let the liquid dry before you open your eyes after application - if not, the liquid may smear the top of your eyes and give you a raccoon look.
Eye liner pencil
The easiest to use, works just like colored pencil. As the tip of this liner is dry, it has a tendency of pulling your eyelids fragile tissues; stretching the eyelids when lining it could help a lot in achieving a smooth application. A note to remember, you should always sharpen the pencil before every application to eliminate any bacteria that has accumulated at the tip.
Permanent eyeliner
This is can be created through cosmetic surgery. This procedure is known as micro pigmentation, a technique that adds a defined line to the lid which with a handheld device used to puncture the skin several times a minute with a very thin needle that pushes color pigments to the position that is desired.
- Begin at the inner corner of your eye. Always be certain to use a light hand when applying your eyeliner, as the area around the eyes is very sensitive and delicate.
- Put on your eyeliner only after you have already applied an eye shadow. Doing it before an eye shadow application would only cover the eyeliner.
- To achieve a dramatic and intense look, a kohl pencil with a color can be applied above as well as below the lashes, and then followed with black or very dark gray liquid eyeliner at the top. This will give the impression of dark eye lashes and will stay on for the whole day. A dark colored eye-liner will highlight the eyes form and outline as well as give them a deep look.
- While holding your head back facing the mirror, look down so that your eyelids will become tight making it easier in applying and controlling the liner. When necessary, smudge.
- The eyes will seem larger when you make a line with a pencil under your lower lashes - instead try a dark eye shadow applied with the help of a tiny makeup brush, to give an illusion of darker and fuller eye lashes. Below such line, you need to apply also a thin line with a lighter shade of eye shadow, preferably white, yellow or beige to brighten up your eye area.
- Pencil liners may be used on both above the top lashes as well as under the lower lashes. Liquid eye liners however, must only be applied on the top lid. Cake eyeliners are applied with water and may be put on to both the top and so too the bottom of the lid.
- If you have beautiful green eyes, try putting on a violet smoky pencil that will enhance your eyes, since basing from the color wheel, violet and green are opposite, so they will compliment each other.
- Refer to nature when you are in a process of deciding on a color. Green, beige and burnt orange are autumn colors.
- Others prefer using an eye liner not only for the eyes, but the lips as well. Should you decide on this, an eye lining pencil will be most suitable for the application. Make sure though, that you choose a certain shade of somewhat reddish brown or orangey-brown or a brownish plum, to compliment and flatter your lipstick.

Animal Rights
Long before environmental issues became popular with the mainstream, however, animal rights activists sounded the alarm about routine practices that harm wildlife and farmed animals. The rise in popularity of faux fur, for example, was a direct result of efforts to educate the public about the cruelty of harvesting animals for their pelts. Similarly, animal rights groups shone the light on the practices of many cosmetics companies that routinely tested makeup on animals and caused untold anguish and pain.
Cruelty Free Makeup Brushes
Although women are increasingly aware of animal testing methods and choose to support cosmetics companies that are committed to cruelty free and animal free testing, women are often less educated about makeup brushes. The animal hair that forms the bristles of many makeup brushes is often purchased from the same suppliers that engage in cruel fur harvesting practices. In fact, all but about a dozen companies in the U.S. have animal hair makeup brushes in their lines.
Technology and Taklon
This fact is perplexing not only because the support of cruelty free products continues to grow, but also because technology is now so advanced that synthetic and natural fiber makeup brushes are superior to animal hair brushes in both functionality and durability. For example, Taklon is a synthetic fiber that is far superior to animal hair in makeup brushes. With animal hair, makeup, dead skin cells, and other contaminants can easily get caught in the cuticles of the animal hair, allowing bacteria to grow and making the brushes unsanitary. Taklon, on the other hand, doesn't have a hair cuticle and has antibacterial properties, making it much better for the skin.
In addition to its antibacterial properties, Taklon is superior to animal hair makeup brushes because of its versatility. Again, the cuticles in animal hair cause streaking when makeup brushes are used for creams or liquids. In contrast, Taklon can be created in textures ranging from extremely soft to very coarse, making it perfect for the application of powders, creams, and liquids.
Synthetic Brushes for Everyone
You don't have to be a vegan to buy cruelty free cosmetics and makeup brushes. As awareness of all environmental issues - from global warming to animal cruelty - increases, conscious consumers will increasingly choose to purchase products that reflect a solid commitment to preserving our planet and its species.

Mineral makeup is here and it looks like it is going to remain popular for quite a while. Whether you are going to be a first-time user of mineral makeup, or you're a regular user, you need to know how to apply it. It might seem difficult at first and you might need to practice it for some time till you can be perfect at it. You need to know the correct tips and techniques to get the unblemished complexion you dream of.
Several mineral makeup brands will provide video or step-by-step instructions when you buy their products. If you are buying mineral makeup from a makeup counter or a store, you should ask for instructions from the salesperson on the way you should apply it. You should pay attention to the instructions given and learn the tips properly. Then you'll notice the difference between mineral and normal makeup.
The Tools: Brushes
Based on whether you will be using mineral makeup as foundation or concealer, you will require a different brush to apply it.
A brush, usually referred to as the Kabuki brush, is what will give you the best results when it comes to applying mineral makeup as foundation. These are like the blush or powder brushes but have short and stubby handles and full and firm bristles. Mineral makeup is applied with a buffing movement so that the stubby short handle is easier to hold and move around while the full short bristles enable a coverage which is even.
In order to apply mineral makeup as a concealer, you can use your fingers to apply it (for areas which need more coverage or for under eye circles) or a concealer brush (narrow and firm bristles which have a rounded tip) in the under eye region or a lip brush (short bristles which taper at the tip) for blemishes around the nose.
There are brushes which are used for applying mineral makeup sold with the makeup itself, but the quality of the brushes can vary. You might have to try different Kabuki-style brushes to find out which one you like best. Brands such as L'Oreal and Neutrogena sell their mineral makeup products with built-in brushes so that it is easier to carry around and apply.
The Technique
As mineral makeup has a loose powder texture, you might want to just dab it on your face like you would with loose powder, but you should not do that. Mineral makeup is a lot less translucent than loose powder and it is meant to be applied as foundation, so you have to apply it in moderation and build it in stages in order to have the prefect flawless look.
These tips will help you to apply it properly:
1.Take a small amount of the makeup on a tissue. You won't need much and you can always add more to it.
2.Dab the Kabuki brush in the powder. Rotate the bristles into the powder, taking the product into the brush. The powder should get into the bristles, not just sit on the tip. When there is no powder on the bristles' tips, you are ready to apply it.
3.Buff the brush against your skin by first holding the brush to the center of your forehead in a circular motion, moving towards the edge of your face.
Continue to do this till you have to add more of the product. You should not add more then once or twice.
The buffing motion is necessary for a flawless complexion.
Following these simple rules will help you to get the perfect skin you wish for.

For someone who is just starting to use cosmetics and wouldn’t know where to start, I would strongly suggest for you to take a close look at cosmetic reviews online. Try to get to know the different manufacturers and have a general idea of the products that they carry. Read about what products are currently on the top of the list or are widely used by the people. Top rated brands and products are usually those that are of good quality and show results. It would also help to ask your friends and relatives on what cosmetic products they are using. Ask them if they have encountered any problems or if the products have demonstrated excellent results. If you have extra sensitive skin and is very prone to rashes, breakouts or allergic reactions, I would strongly suggest that you consult first a dermatologist or a doctor in the field of expertise before using any product. This is to avoid any allergies especially when it comes to skin care products and to prevent complications and damage on the skin.
Give yourself a makeover and surprise people with a new look, a new you. If you want to start with make up, try getting online tips on how to wear make-up and on what type of make-up you should wear for day as well as a night out. Try getting help as well from friends and try it out by experimenting out different looks to find out what suits you best. Carefully select the cosmetic products that you will be using on your face. Do not fret if you don’t get your make-up right the first time; it is natural for first timers. With a lot of practice, I’m pretty sure putting on make-up will soon be definitely a breeze.

Foundation creates a blank canvas on the face to which colors is added: eye shadow, blush & lipstick. It is also the setting agent. It is also the setting agent for these products acting as a barrier between the colour & the skin's own natural oils, which would otherwise dissolve the make-up. But because it covers the largest area of the face, foundation needs to blend seamlessly with the skin.
Makeup Foundations for differing Skin Types
Before buying new foundation there are two areas of concern that need to be addressed.
Firstly, the foundation must complement your skin type.
Oily Skin; For oily skin that is prone to shine, an oil-free formulation will hinder the production of excess oil, and most contain extra powder particles to dry any oil produced.
Normal Skin; Normal skin can take pretty much any formulation, but a liquid will give ample coverage without looking caked or heavy. Dry skin needs make-up foundation with extra moisturisers to keep it supple, and to prevent the skin from drinking in the makeup. A cream make-up formulation will last longer and also hydrate.
Foundation Colours
The best time to pick a colour is when your skin is at its most natural shade. So, after your holidays or morning after self tanning applications are not the best time. The best place to try make-up is on the jaw line.
Basically, foundation colour falls into two categories;
The most common yellow-toned skin types are Asian, sallow and black skin, whereas fair skin has generally has pink tones. It is important to choose a foundation that matches your skin's base, otherwise the make-up will not blend well, no matter how you apply it.
Applying make-up foundations
Oily Skin; With oily skin, the application of oil-free formulas needs to be fast, as they dry speedily. Using clean fingers to apply small does to the areas most in need of coverage is the best way; simply do each area at a time until the face is complete.
Normal Skin; For normal skin, the choice of cream-to-powder liquid or powder foundation can change how much time you spend applying it. Cream-to-powder is best applied with a sponge, starting in the centre of the face and working outwards; its done in a matter of moments. Liquid foundation looks more natural applied with a foundation brush. Again work the brush outwards, taking care to use less around the eye area. Powder or mineral make-up foundation should be applied with a large powder brush; while it will not give the same level of coverage as a liquid, it is a great makeup for those who are pressed for time.
Dry Skin; For dry skin, cream foundation moves well around the face, and a little goes a long way. Dry skin tends to have few blemishes, so concentrate on areas that need coverage, and leave clear areas bare: this is why getting the right colour match is vital.
